Full Name: Johanna Johnsson
Called By: Jo. Call her JoJo and she'll kill you.
Age: 28
Please describe your OC's universe of origin:
Johanna comes from a version of Earth in 2010 and hails from New York.
Barak Obama is the current president, Michael R. Bloomberg is the current mayor and David Paterson is the Governor. She lives in New York City which is still the most populated city in the United States. The city is known for its status as a financial, cultural, transportation, and manufacturing center as well as for its history as the gateway for immigration. It’s also a destination of choice for many tourists both from the US and to those from foreign countries. Both the state city were named for the 17th century Duke of York, James Stuart.
Politics are as they are currently in real life, as are the global struggles between world powers and societies. There are many kinks in the American government just as there are in our current world society, and current social structures and social classes are the same as well. It's all essentially the same.
...Except for a few minor, totally insignificant details.
Like, werewolves and ghosts and demons and aliens. And the president happens to be a vampire.
Oh and also - BECAUSE of the alien and supernatural influence, technology in the 2000s far surpasses what we have in reality. Cars fly, spaceships are normal to see whizzing through the night sky, and with airports there are space stations that are accessible by space elevator and shuttle alike.
Demons, monsters, things that go bump in the night? All normal. The appearance of these supernatural and extraterrestrial creatures is nothing new. Since before humans could even write, the Earth has been visited by and home to extraterrestrials from distant solar systems and galaxies. Foreign entities and UFOs have been landing here and making the planet their home for thousands of years, and these beings have been coexisting more or less with the native population. Fleeing their own destroyed or otherwise conflicted planets, they set up residence amongst us, attempting to blend in and those that were too different, too unique attempted to stay out of sight, out of mind.
For a time, anyway. Because constantly living in hiding? IT GOT OLD. Eventually - within a few hundred years or so of settling and attempting to be 'normal', the aliens 'came clean'. There would be no more hiding, no more fear of persecution that escalated from primitive, textbook dictated views.
The reaction to these beings was welcomed, shockingly enough. Humans, despite their archaic bibles and their damnation spewing priests welcomed the aliens with mostly open arms.
Far more advanced than we barely evolved humans, these extraterrestrial beings shared with us knowledge of irrigation, architecture, law, physics, etc. In return for these gifts, humans shared their planet, their resources, and their homes. As time passed, the extraterrestrials quickly realized why the humans were so welcoming. The earth was not as peaceful a place as the aliens had hoped, it was being consumed with malevolent creatures - monsters, demons and mythological creatures right out of children’s fairy tales and horror stories.
Humans needed help - quickly. They were desperate for the fae to stop snatching their children and they were tired of werewolves stealing their sheep. Vampires left towns reeking of death and destruction, and banshees wandered the halls of castles unchecked, shrieking their rage and driving the inhabitants away.
To help police these issues and to avoid worldwide panic and mayhem (and angry rioting), most government groups organized militias in order to protect life and combat those that were not so...ambivalent.
It originally started in Europe but it was so effective the Division gained international status; each country having its own individual sects. It became known as the Division of Paranormal and Extraterrestrial Defense and Research.
Many times these coalitions paired cooperative and friendly aliens along with the humans, since many of these extraterrestrials had unique abilities and gifts that aided in the detection of the more…hostile aliens and monsters. Initially this created a lot of distrust within the ranks, since for the most part aliens were still exactly that – foreign concepts that these human soldiers couldn’t and didn’t want to understand, but as time passed and human and alien evolved, things got somewhat better.
Once the supernaturals understood that no, feeding on humans until they're dead, shriveled things wasn't going to be acceptable and no, you cannot steal that farmers sheep anymore and yes, you're going to have to find another place to shriek the remainder of your time away, things got much better.
There was some resistance, of course, but for the most part, alien, human, and monster eventually began to get along.
Ever since the giant Supernatural War Between the Human-Alien Alliance and the Supernaturals, human and alien and monster have lived together on Earth in...well. Relative peace. There are still purists and elitists on either side, and hate groups, no matter how advanced the cultures, will form. However, most of the population these days seems pretty content with their fast paced lives and life continued as such for hundreds of years as alien, monster, and human evolved together.
There are still issues but they go largely unnoticed by the public at large, though that's mostly because local sects of the Division worked to clean up their messes and keep the body count down.
Johanna herself is what is called "Loup-Garou" werewolf, and the folklore of this particular legend says that they ride on a giant bat and sneak into your home at night, bite you, hop back on their bat and fly away. She is a slightly AU version of this particular breed. Below is some standard info about her 'breed'.
Initially, if the wolf is young or newly ‘bitten’, the first change is the worst. It’s a physical change as opposed to just a FLASH and poof! Werewolf! Bones break and rearrange themselves into the skeletal structure of a large wolf, and nails lengthen into claws and canines sharpen to points. It’s an extremely painful, extremely physical process, and it isn’t easy. The wolf in question is larger than what is considered normal (a standard grey wolf is 26-38 inches tall and between 44-137 pounds) and nearly triples the body mass of a standard wolf, and their height (from ground to shoulder) grows by approximately 30%. They aren’t really the customary gangly werewolves that can stand on their hind legs and walk bipedally – they’re just really large wolves that can come in any color a wolf normally does (grey, brown, black, etc). Each wolf keeps the same eye color as when they’re a human. When wolves, their strength is massive and their hides so thick it’s nearly impossible to kill them with regular kinds of weapons. The silver metal theory is not a myth in this world, and these wolves also have an aversion to wolfsbane.
The older a werewolf is (age isn’t really determined completely by years – it goes on experience, maturity, and how long one has actually been a wolf) and the more training they have, the more control they have over their mind, and their ability to shapeshift. The ‘older’ the wolf, the more chance they have of maintaining their sanity while changed as well as being able to take the shape of their alternate form when it isn’t a full moon. Unfortunately, on the day of the full moon they transform fully and have no control over that power. Moon says bend over, all werewolves have no option but to obey and shift. They also remember what they do during the full moon, as opposed to many other breeds.
Younger wolves (like Johanna) don’t have the sort of control that an older and more experienced shifter/wolf might have when shifting at will, and the first year is the worst. Most newly bitten are hidden in remote locations as far from populated areas as possible during this time, so that ‘accidents’ don’t occur. This is in order for the pack to teach them and help train their minds. Because of all this training and group help, packs were fairly tight and very family oriented. Kids (pups) that are born into this lifestyle are trained from birth and have little issue fitting in with normal society most of the time (save for about a week of moodiness and one night of howling). New, or young, Loup-Garous – again like Johanna - can shift when they get too emotional or excited. Anger can be a trigger and one might end up growing out claws or fangs, and the same thing can happen if she cries or gets overly excited. When she gets too excited, it’s probably going to be a good idea for her NOT to hug someone, because she might accidentally break their ribs.
The ‘disease’ (legendary lycanthropy) and its condition are also hereditary, and irreversible. Once you are bitten or born in this world, there is no going back.
Description:

History:
Johanna was born some twenty seven years ago to her parents, Janet Kingsley and Michael Johnsson on a cool April evening. Her childhood was fairly standard for the heiress to a giant fortune – she had everything she could have ever wanted from a young age, and more. Her mother Janet came from an old family that had held several patents throughout the years, including coat hangars and the small fold at the bottom of a paper bag. Two extremely overlooked conveniences brought in millions to the Kingsley family, and while they weren’t exceedingly well known or even particularly famous, Janet’s family lived a life that was more than comfortable.
Michael came from a much different upbringing – he was born to a working class family in Florida, and upon graduation from high school he had decided to travel instead of going immediately off to college. His journey had taken him far in the few months he had left the nest, journeying to California to Arizona and as far north as Canada. He was on his way back down the East coast when he decided to stop in New York.
Janet met Michael Bassett at the World’s Fair in New York in September 1964 when they were both 18. It was love at first sight for these two – Janet took to Michael like a moth to a flame, and they were inseparable. The Kingsley family didn’t approve of the relationship much, and tried to warn Janet that Michael was only after the Kingsley family fortune. Janet refused to believe this, and after a lengthy courtship Michael asked her father’s permission and he proposed. They married in 1972, eight years to the day after they met. Ten years later, they had Johanna.
An exceptionally smart girl, Johanna plowed easily though her schooling from infancy up until she reached high school. As a teenager, she rebelled as most do, flunking several classes purposefully and taking to sneaking out late at night. Her parents weren’t sure what to do with her and weren’t positive that she was going to graduate, but at the last minute Johanna scraped by and walked out of the school, diploma in hand.
College was a different story – she was sent to NYU but flunked out because of far too much partying. From NYU she went to Berkeley (thanks mostly due to a serious contribution from her parents) of which she also flunked out. After Berkeley, she bounced around from community colleges, taking various classes and sleeping through most of them. This was especially frustrating to Johanna’s parents since they knew how smart she was, and that is partly why the girl had so many chances. Eventually though, her parents got tired of it, and cut her off and kicked her out of the house, demanding she get a job and work to get the things in life that she wanted.
At first, Johanna was resentful of her parents for tossing her out to the wolves so to speak, but over the span of a year Johanna was finally able to recognize that life wasn’t really about having things handed to you, and that she was going to have to work just as hard as the next person. After bouncing around from job to job, Johanna finally talked a friend of hers, Linda, into lending her a large sum of money so she could open a bar.
Jo, of course, had absolutely zero business experience and the bar nearly tanked in it's first few weeks of being open, especially when another bar opened up across the street.
Frank was a young businessman that knew exactly what he wanted and how to get it. He was smart, well educated, and also came from a family of privilege - but he didn't get cut off like some other people who will remain nameless (coughJocough).
Johanna hated him, and she hated working with him. She knew he was intelligent and she knew he was the
, and while a shrewd man in his own right, he really wasn’t as bad as Johanna made him out to be. After several months of working late nights with Frank, Johanna was bitten by what she thought to be a stray dog in the parking lot as she was walking to her car.
The bite began to look like an infection, and after a day or so of a brain boiling fever, chills, and some serious hardcore vomiting that made her worst hangover look like a breeze, the symptoms finally went away and she appeared to be completely healed.
This is when she’s pulled from.
